Wildlife Talks and Videos
« on: October 01, 2011, 04:06:01 AM »
Share interesting talks/lectures and videos about wildlife.  If possible, in addition to the link, please provide a short description and length of the video and/or lecture.

Tales of Ice-Bound Wonderlands - Paul Nicklen (A Ted Talk video/lecture) - length: almost 18 min.

My comments:  Marine animals are intriguing.  Enjoy photos of many species and then listen to an entertaining talk by an expert as he shares his experiences.  There is a very interesting video sequence where he dives under the ice and finds a female leopard seal that wants to feed him.   :eclol

From the website page: "Diving under the Antarctic ice to get close to the much-feared leopard seal, photographer Paul Nicklen found an extraordinary new friend. Share his hilarious, passionate stories of the polar wonderlands, illustrated by glorious images of the animals who live on and under the ice."

I am leaving for Antarctica in two weeks and we will have divers on board to do more exploration.  They will show us the video and give a lecture at that time.  It will be interesting to see what they find as they try to go to new places each time.  I will be sharing with you when we return.

Wowee, Blackster!  What a great adventure for you!  Have a wonderful and safe trip.

That environment has a whole different set of habitats that we can learn about from you. The students who do some of our wildlife puzzles on the forum puzzle thread will enjoy doing them from photos you are able to share with us.  :eclove

Incredible video of Grizzlies fishing with a Wolf in Alaska. The Wolf learned to fish by watching Grizzly bears fish.

It takes courage to push yourself to places that you have never been before, to test your limits, to break through barriers. And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was more painful that the risk it took to blossom. - Anais Nin

Jackie Hildering's latest post from north Vancouver Island re "Fins vs Feathers" - transient killer whales and birds - in August 2011.  Great photos as always, although some of the birds obviously don't survive the "play".  http://themarinedetective.com/2012/01/15/fins-verses-feathers-transient-killer-whales-harass-rhinoceros-auklets/
