:grouphug Booni,  As usual you went above and beyond...it is so sad the eagle did not make it but you did everything possible to save him.  It is reassuring to know there was not a brood patch.  You are an eagle's angel.
There is grace afoot in this world and it will find you.

Booni... thank you so much for doing what you did to try to save that poor eagle... it is sad to know he couldn't be saved, but really you did save him from a slow lingering death... this was much more mercyful for him... if MARS couldn't do anything for him... this was the best solution even though we all had hope for a recovery... thank you to all involved in helping him... what a bunch of caring people you all are. :heart

We always try.  We want them all to live!

In this case, humane euthanization was certainly the only choice.  Birds hide their injuries.  He must have been in a great deal of pain.  Had you not rescued him, he could have faced a horrible, terrifying death.  You saved him from that.

Booni, you and our friends at MARS did everything possible for the eagle you rescued.  Thank you for being the loving person you are, who goes out to help whenever you're needed.  It wasn't easy to do, but as others have said, thank goodness the eagle didn't have to linger any longer.  You really are an angel for wildlife who come under your care.   :heart

Yesterday we went looking for the Sea Lion, but though the trees were full of Eagles & Turkey Vultures, we couldn*t see the Sea Lion in the spot where he was.
So we walked up & looked, & sure enough he was gone, not a trace of him left, nothing but some big pooshots.
We looked down the beach & saw wings!
The Sea Lion had been moved by the tide.
We saw mostly young Eagles & Vultures, lots of them, & a few Ravens still working on the carcass.
This is all that was left a few days ago.

These were some of the young Eagles hanging out in the Trees near the Sea Lion.

When i went looking for the down Eagle, the first thing i spotted was a whole herd of Canada Geese!
Many were adults, but a lot of them were Goslings, or all different ages & sizes!
i skirted them carefully, so they could all head off, not in a panic, knowing i wasn*t after them.

Mishi & i found this fella near the Sea Lion, who was becoming slim pickings & had floated down the beach a ways from where he*d been.
He seems thin to me.
Maybe a two year old?
Notice the nice dark brown eye, & mostly dark beak.
Nice white patches on the tail.

On this day, Mishi & i were just heading home from work.
We both looked up at the Nest Tree.
Is that an Eaglet up there? we both said.
i*ve been looking & looking at this Nest for WEEKS, & suddenly, clear as day, there is an Eaglet standing there.
You can*t believe how big they look, til you see one standing way up there.
So we stopped & got out our cameras.

Awright, you scooped me, Booni! :eclol

I saw that eaglet three days earlier, on a walk with some of the visitors... but the light was not as good; these are much better photos! Thank you for taking them and posting them.

I am just catching up after being gone awhile so forgive me for posting so late - Booni thank you so much for all you did for the injured Eagle. Your actions and your accounting of this sad but heroic story probably will help some other eagle in the future. We learn so much here. I am so thankful that you are there for the Hornby eagles.

Today on my way to work i looked up at the Nest & spotted an Eaglet branching!
On my way home from work, i saw TWO Eaglets flapping away in branches!
Notice the *interesting* feet positioning of this one.  :mhihi
