Bless the Beasts Foundation (New York)
« on: July 22, 2011, 06:45:50 AM »
Established in 1991, Bless the Beasts Foundation, Inc. is a network of wildlife rehabilitators that serves Niagara, Erie, Genesee and Orleans Counties in New York State.  Wildlife rehabilitation is a volunteer service - no one is paid for their services except the veterinarians who provide the initial medical care to their patients.  Bless the Beasts Foundation is registered in the US as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.

Wendy Pencille has been a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for almost 25 years. She was recently in the news with the story of two bald eagles who arrived at her facility, months apart, but appear to be a mated pair.

I received an email tonight from Wendi at Bless the Beasts Foundation. She said she is overwhelmed by the response from the Hornby people. Good job, folks! Remember, we are just getting started with BTB...you can donate to the critters in need at this link: http://blessthebeastsinc.webs.com/howyoucanhelp.htm  You'll find a Paypal button on that page. I hope to drive out there this week with a truckload of supplies. Wendi said she would try to visit our forum and perhaps the chat room too when she has time. So be on your best behavior ...as a mod I still have ban powers....heheheh

Hey people, I made it out to the eagles rehab, BTB. Nice 50 minute drive in the country...it'll be great in the fall too, with all the trees. Wendi was great, I got to see all the birds in rehab. Owls, perrigrine, red tails, kestrils and of course the eagles. I took pics (or Wendi did for me, she's a pro) but I can't find my cam/computer cable hook-up so those will follow later. Still unsure if the state will let the eagles stay with BTB so it's too soon to plan on a cam there. Time will tell. Wendi told me the National Wildlife Refuge next to her used to have an eagle nest cam and gave me the names of the people to talk to there  http://www.fws.gov/northeast/iroquois/  they have a link for a wren nest cam there now. An eagle nest cam in the Refuge would be pretty cool, eh?

It was a very positive visit and Wendi asked me to thank everyone for their interest and donations. Her plan to build a 400 foot flight cage may have a bearing on the states decision to place the eagles (permanently) with BTB, so please keep those donations coming. Even if this pair moves on to a different home there will be plenty more critters in need. Her proximity to the Refuge guarantees clients for the rehab and I intend to help when I can. I hope y'all will join me.

here is the link to help the rehab:  http://blessthebeastsinc.webs.com/howyoucanhelp.htm

Thanks Bob. If I could, I would hug you, but for now, just know that I believe that you have a big heart. Will help all I can, also.

Bob, this looks promising.  Please keep up-dating us!   :eclove

That mated pair of injured bald eagles is special.  Nancy, thanks for posting the video link.  What a lovely story.   I hope they can stay at Bless the Beasts Foundation.  They will receive excellent care there.   :nod2

Wendi must feel as if Santa came to visit her in the summer... :chuckle

there is still time to do an application for a pepsi grant - I'd do it for MARS but don't feel I know enough - I think it doesn't need to be complicated......here's the link:  http://www.refresheverything.com/myidea/begin

Nan

This is for the US only. So could work for this site.

Bless the Beasts is preparing a better home for the eagles. The pair that was reunited after both were injured and found separately. :eclove

We're planning to expand our facilities to include a 400' long flight cage for our large Eagle patients.  Estimated cost for this cage is $60,000.  Remember the old saying "If you build it they will come."  Well they are coming before we build it!

Emc, I haven't heard from Wendi in quite awhile.  The last time she sent me an email, they still didn't know if both eagles would stay there.  I'll write to her and find out what is happening.
