hoping they can try again soon ...

This is the "official"  Facebook page- there is a post with three photos of yesterday's attempt - the nest is huge!

The people involved with this nest were able to move a cherrypicker into the area and remove both eaglets from the nest.  A vet, on site, examined them.  One eaglet (S4) was fine and was banded and returned to the nest.  The other eaglet was found to have a fishing hook in its mouth plus fishing wire wrapped around it s wing and leg and was taken to the hospital.  The hook was removed, the eaglet was given antibiotics and had a few stitches taken (in her neck, according to the Judy, the park ranger).  It was returned to the nest about 24 hours later.

Information and pictures are from the EagleCam Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/Sea.EagleCAM

Picture of line protruding from the beak of one eaglet (S3) - this is from Saturday, the day before the problem was actually recognized by online chatters.

Both eaglets back in the nest, both are now banded.  S3's band is on the right leg, S4's on the left.

Nancy, thanks for the update. The last time I looked at the eaglets was a few weeks ago. Such a sad situation, but hopefully they will now be alright.

Kudos to the chatters who managed to move 'TPTB' to take action. Makes one wonder if people have been illegally fishing in the river?

"After a long day for the seaglets and S3 spending the night with Dr Stacey the vet, mum returns to nest with dinner and can't quite understand where her missing baby is? Up, down and all around, looking at S4 "what have you done with S3?". "

Koori (s3) has fledged! She took off and was gone 20 minutes then returned.

thank you Dusk.  So great to see that even with a hiccup in this nest...they have both fledged beautifully!   :heart

Good News!

The seaglet that has been missing since his first fledge has been spotted and photgraphed.
He  was just outside the nest forest and near his parents.
