Boo, Aiden said that would be fine for HEGPS to post his talons.... .  The only thing that concerns me is that the kids really like seeing responses to their work....and I can't do facebook in the classroom.  Would you please post the link to this class page for comments?  Thanks!!  ~WK

Nick and Aiden I love your pictures - you caught the essence of the eagles beautifully.  And good work class on analyzing the poem.  You are lucky to have such a talented and creative teacher.

Wonderful posts of kids work!  So cool how the kids learn so many different things by watching these eagles.  The eagles are a window on the world for them, and a path to all kinds of knowledge!  Learning how to learn is the most valuable lesson they are getting!  Congratulations to a wonderful teacher!!!! We did some writing again....  I thought I would share Meadow's observtions from the other day

"Nictititating Membrane"

Raptors have a speshle eye lid that we don't.
They have this eye lid to keep the sand out.
An eagle can see through the nictitating membrane.
They blink up.  We blink down. 
A flying eagle can see through the nictitatiting membrane so it won't crash.
 Eagles have great vision.

The eaglets are  big and black.
Harmony is black and Peace is gray.  Mom/Dad is eating.
Peace and Harmony are laying down.  When an eaglet blinks you can see their nictitating membrane.

Peace and harmony got bigger.  It looks like the nest got smaller, but the babies are getting bigger.  Harmony is darker than Peace.  Peace looks like she has a black and gray coat on.

Hello, HEGPS!!!!!  We have been watching, but no longer have the capability to chat with you on the nest..  :-( 
Today, after we had a laugh over the "eagles barking", Cooper had a question.  Hopefully, someone will see this - it's been a long time since we have posted.....

Cooper has been reading about flamingos.  He noticed that the chicks have different eye color than the adult and asked why.  I had no answer, but made the connection between the eaglets' dark eyes and the yellow of of the adult eyes.  So now we both wonder why the eyes change color as the bird matures?

Wild here is a link from the san diego zoo about flamingos.  According to the write up from the zoo, the eyes change color from dark to pale yellow as they mature
