Decorah Eagle Cam
« on: March 03, 2011, 07:51:35 AM »
The Decorah eagle nest is situated in a tree at the fish hatchery in Decorah, Iowa.  The nest is brought to viewers by the
Raptor Resource Project www.raptorresource.org

The link to the cam is: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/decorah-eagles  Scroll down the page for FAQ ('frequently asked questions').

The Decorah eagles have been together since the winter of 2007-2008. Her markings at that time indicated that she was about 4 years old. They successfully hatched and fledged 2 eaglets in 2008, then 3 in 2009, and 3 more in 2010

This season (2011) three eggs have been laid:

First egg was laid Feb. 23, 2011 at 5:33 p.m. CST. Videos, the first part when she lays the egg, the second part when we get our first look:

For those that have not actually seen an eagle lay her eggs, here is a 12 minute video of the Decorah, Iowa eagle laying her third egg on Wednesday night (Feb. 23, 2011). Her third egg came 8 days after her first egg.

BBE-I am a loyal Hornby follower, up to 15 hrs a day sometimes, but yes, I love the Decorah cam, also. It's new to me, but I am enjoying getting to know the occupants. The cam is a TPZ cam, and it is exceptionally clear. Let's us see the "whites of their eyes"  :eclol

Thanks dizzy, the Decorah eagles now have their own topic.

One FAQ I found which others may like to read. From the FAQ (which follows the Rules for Chat at http://www.raptorresource.org

Which is the male and which is the female?
Quote
It is hard to tell the difference unless they are both on the nest. The female is larger than the male. This female has a ridge above her eyes that goes further back than on the male, and her eyes are surrounded by a greyish shadow; the male has a line around his eyes that makes them look “beadier.” Some think that the male’s head is “sleeker” than the female’s.
