Nest Brigantine - eaglet Brig
« on: November 10, 2009, 06:09:02 PM »
A place to post fotos & information to do with the Brigantine Nest. Doug*s map of all the Hornby nests is here.

Nest Brigantine isn*t on Doug*s map. It is approximately where #13 nest is. When Doug was documenting all the nests on the island, this one wasn*t there. So this must be a newer nest.

Heads up With all my fotos, if you click on them, you will get a larger version. Also, any bold blue type is a link that you can click on.

When eagles eat, they gobble down their prey in large chunks, bones, feathers & all. Later, things like the bones & feathers come back up their throat when they do a sort of coughing motion with their neck & head & these parts come back up as a "pellet" which they expel. This one was found in the bush under the nest. Size was approximately 2" long & 4" in circumference.

Pellet found under the nest - September 4, 2009

Okay, be gentle taking it apart. Looks like the owl ate a bird, might be little rodent bones too. What size is it?

passerine, i found this under an eagle nest, so i was figuring it was an eagle/eaglet pellet.
No?

Can you measure the length and diameter Barb?

Well, now i have egg on my face!
First of all, i forgot to put my ruler in the foto.
Secondly, i can*t find the pellets!
i had two of them, one from under the Brigantine nest & one from the perch tree area of the Dunlop nest!

Fire me too, the odds are most likely eagle.  :really
Would have to be a high shelve for Dooki dog not to reach.

That would be my first guess.

Second, you put them somewhere where you wouldn't forget them.  :puzzled2

I do that all of the time.
