Nest #31 Olsen Farm 2009-2010
« on: November 08, 2009, 08:40:29 PM »

Nest #31 has a beautiful location. i discovered it for myself when i went to one of the events of the yearly Hornby Festival. Right in view of the festival event was this nest with the Mum & Dad coming & going. i watched the nest more than the event! Pretty soon i realized that this nest had two eaglets in it.

I hope we're going to have a photo thread on the Forum where people can post pictures of eagles, other wildlife and places on Hornby Island.  Not only our ground observers from this group, but also people who visit Hornby and come to the Hornby Eagles Forum.  :nod2

The ground observations thread is open to everyone.  Please feel free to post any photos of the Hornby Island Area - locals and visitors alike :)

i had business at Ford Cove today, so i was determined to check out five nests i knew of in the area, on the way.
The second one i stopped at was Nest #31 Olsen Farm.
i was standing on the road, looking in at the property, & the tree was a long ways away.
i also looked at it from a closer view, on the property next door.
i wonder if this nest fell?
i didn*t see it in the tree at all, & i saw & heard no signs of eagles there.
i may get an opportunity at the end of the month, to examine the nest from a closer distance.

Okay, i forgot to report what Dan Hamilton, the Tree climber, told me about Olsen Farm.
He was out in his boat, & he saw an eaglet flapping at a different location than last year*s Nest, but still on the Olsen Farm.
So it seems as though the Olsen Farm eagles have moved north a short ways.
& that they have at least one eaglet.
We will continue to monitor this Nest & report our findings.

Dan is now an eagle watcher!  As someone who knows the trees on Hornby Island, he will be a good informer for you.  It is a help when neighbours and property owners and people like Dan give you information.

Booni...the photo from "View from Nest #31 - Madrona & Heron Rocks - August 2, 2009" is one of my favorites.  Beautiful framing and a perfect shot.  Thanks!
