Nest 20 Whaling Station Bay - 2019 Season
« on: July 02, 2019, 09:08:13 AM »

This Nest is on a rocky point that separates Middle Bay from Whaling Station Bay.
It is right in peoples* yard, on the waterfront.
In the winter it is nice & quiet but in the summer there are LOTS of visitors to the neighbourhood & to the Bays on either side.

i was nearby, & the neighbour of this Nest had asked me if there were Eaglets on this Nest, so i stopped to have a peek & a listen.
With my eye, through my camera, i spotted at least one Eaglet head & beak & eye moving around up there.
At one point both adults called nearby.

July 14, a visit to this nest.

An adult landed just as I was arriving.
I thought the squeeing calls sounded like a duet at times...

Here's the adult, feeding someone. On two of the blurrier photos the food looks orangey like salmon.
While this eagle is stuffing food into someone's beak, the squeeing is still going on full blast, so I'm thinking a second eaglet.
Down flags cling to the branches, and something looking worryingly like fishing line is tangled into the branches ahead of the eagle.

One of the neighbours came by and said hi; she says she's only seen one eaglet at a time, but that the Elder living next door also thinks that there are two.

Here is one eaglet anyway, showing up after a bit of post-meal flapping.

This is reassuring information - except for th e possibility of fishing line.  Thank you Wren.

Heard two reports of at least one fledgling flying around.
On august 1 i was helping with a tidal walk in the area & heard at least one Eaglet calling the whole time.
