Nest Dunlop Point - 2019 season
« on: April 02, 2019, 05:57:49 PM »

The Dunlop Nest is in a FABULOUS location.
On a point with a view to forever, a huge amount of shore for food, & lots of lovely Arbutus Trees.

Last year*s posts, & links to previous years can be found here.

We went for a walk on Sandpiper beach yesterday, because i wanted to check out the Dunlop Nest.
They were already incubating while cali was here, so there should be Eaglets visible by now!
Started checking out the Nest as soon as we got there.
Didn*t see any heads poking above the sticks & no adults keeping an eye on them nearby.
There were at least six Eagles of all ages on the shoreline, probably looking for Midshipman.
When one flew in i was ready, expecting them to bring it to the Nest.
But they didn*t.
They landed on the shore & ate.
Tried to see what they were eating.

Here we might be seeing the open mouth of a Fish!
Midshipman?
& this Eagle has head feathering of a sub-adult!

About the best view i got of the Nest.
No fuzzy heads visible.
They could be lying down, but i would think an adult would be in attendance nearby.
i shall return another day.

On our way back we practically blundered right into this!

The male had been alone, closer to shore, so we gave HIM a wide berth.
& we quickly got out of THIS one*s way!

Noticed a pair of Birds on the rocks, moving too fast to get fotos of, but got a nice one, enough to identify!
A rare sighting, for me.

Closer to shore there were tiny Birds noodling in the old rotting sea weed.
We spotted some of these in the Heron Rocks territory too, & i posted about them.
Not a Bird i have seen before!

i*m on the wrong side of the light to show them properly, & they are so hard to spot!
They blend right in.
