Nest 4 - Trimble's Corner - 2019 season
« on: January 29, 2019, 06:19:24 PM »

This thread is about the nest we used to call #4. Others called it the broken-tree nest.
After 3 years with no offspring, the eagles of this territory built a new nest, across the field to the northeast.
Last summer they had a nice healthy eaglet there.

This nest sits on a small bluff next to a really big intertidal zone, so it's probably a great territory. The Phipps Point nest is nearby.

I went scouting through this territory in the late afternoon, not really looking for eagles: I had been told that a neighbour had seen some Greater White-fronted Geese among the Canada Geese on Trimble's Farm.

No geese at all were in evidence on any of the fields, however.

But the slanting, golden afternoon sun sure felt good.
Just starting on my return trip, I spotted this eagle right near the road.
Then heard several eagles calling from points inland, on both sides of the road.
This eagle sure has a full crop!

This eagle's face looks dirty, but some of the darker head feathers are the right pattern for a sub-adult. Also there seems to be a lot of dark on the tail tip.

Lovely to see! Not only do I not see much white on tail, I also do not think the tail is very long -  still growing tail feathers?
