« on: January 14, 2019, 11:16:51 AM »

Here is where you*ll find information, fotos, & videos about this territory!
Wren posted an excellent description of it in last year*s topic here.
That is also where you can read what happened last year, & find links to the previous years* topics.

i was in this territory yesterday to do the january monthly Bird count!
i am just riding the coat tails of the person who lives there who is more experienced at it than i am.
There were three of us looking, one with a scope, one with binocs, both with Bird books, & me with my zoomy camera.
If nothing else, it was a beautiful, sunny, even warm day, a TREAT after the stormy wet windy weather we have been having.
It is always a treat to spend time in this territory, which is just to the left aways from the view we see through our webcam.
Most of the Sea & Shore Bird fotos i got are far away & not good enough for posting, but i WAS able to get some nice fotos of what is likely the female Eagle of this territory, as she landed on what has been in the past their Nest Tree!

It sounds like there*s been some kind of feeding activity in this area lately!
Over to the left towards Collishaw Point, there were at least five Eagles, one of them a two year old, who flew over us.

Alrighty!
It is once again Bird count day.
Nothing exciting to show you about the shore Birds on this day.
There weren*t many to see, or to count.
But, we got shown the new Eagle Nest!
It is on the same shore as the other Nest, in a Tree just a little to the left.
We are looking at these dead sticks, trying to decide if it is a Nest or not.

i back up a ways, & then it is definitely the Nest.

Just to the right a little ways i am shown where a Canada Goose makes her Nest every year!
We had to sneak up on her & i took fotos very quickly.
She is right on the edge of the bank & i wouldn*t want to scare her.
She held this pose the whole time.

To the left a little ways was an Eagle in their perch Tree.

We watched a second Eagle come from the left with a stick!
They circled & circled in the Wind, trying to come in to the Nest with it, but finally went over & landed with the other Eagle in their perch Tree.

When the Eagle started fiddling with the stick i started a video.
Oops, i was supposed to delete the sound of the peanut gallery in the back ground!

Oh, & just a p.s., especially to wren, when we were closer to the house, there was another Eagle pair calling to the right, closer to Niner territory.
At one point we saw an Eagle fly inland behind the house & then they broke a stick & flew to the right with it!
You could hear the snap, even in the Wind!
So, perhaps another Nest in there somewhere towards Niner territory?

Bird count day again!
Shore Bird counting is over til september now, as they have mostly left, but we thought we*d look anyway.
There were Eagles out on the point to the left, perhaps waiting to spot Midshipmen?
& there was at least one youngster flying back & forth.
i forgot to check out the Nest!
There were TONS of Seals basking in the Sun out there, & their bobbing heads fooled us that there were Birds.
But there were no other Birds except a flock of about 120 Pacific Loons!

Here is an Eagle pair, way out on Collishaw Point.

We went down to the beach because the farmer had seen Kingfishers mating!
She*d read that they Nest in tunnels in the bank eight feet deep!
So we were looking for holes in the bank, near where she saw them mating.
She has Mimulus/Yellow Monkey Face & Chocolate Lilies on her bank!
It is a VERY steep bank.
While we were sitting & enjoying, we saw a tiny Bird flutter out & back again, very different.
i was trying to get fotos.
This is an action shot, but shows you the yellow rump.

may 12 2019 15:17 - Yellow-rumped Warbler

i didn*t crop these two because i love the sloping rock faces.

This Bird seemed to be chasing insects.
There were LOTS of little Flies from the rotting Sea Weed.

Oh!
& then on our way out i spotted a flash of yellow in the garden!
A male American Goldfinch eating Dandelion seeds!

The video is a bit out of focus but you can still see him plucking the umbrellas & eating the seeds.
Show this to people who hate Dandelions!
