Nest 9 West Carmichael - 2018-2019 Season
« on: October 04, 2018, 06:37:47 PM »

The new season for the Nest #9 territory begins!

This is where we will post observations, videos, & fotos of the Nest #9 Eagle territory.
This territory is right next to the webcam Nest, to the left as we look out through the webcam.
This Nest is hard to view, it is in a huge, beautiful old Fir Tree, so the Eagles are more often spotted in their perch Trees in their neighbourhood.
We are, however, able to see the Nest Tree & Nest from the cam.

The 2017-2018 topic for this territory can be found here.

The 2016-2017 topic for this territory can be found here.

The 2015-2016 topic for this territory can be found here.

On october 2 i was driving home after finding an Eagle in the webcam territory for the first time & i also spotted an Eagle in Niner territory for the first time.
The Eagle was near the top of this Tree, that we see from the cam.

Closer to the water, & very close to the above scap taken from the webcam, is this Tree, which we used to be able to see, but it has lost a good chunk of it*s top, plus i think from our cam view it is blocked by Gregg*s Tree now.
We had just returned from Phipps Point, which i posted about here , & i had dropped off my friend after doing a loop through the Nest neighbourhood when i spotted an almost comical sight in the distance!

Their heads were catching the setting Sun & how cool was that!

Now this is the Tree you can see from the cam & i believe you were watching these three.

So many eagles sitting calmly together!

i was having a rest after running around all day getting my Ducks in a row for cali*s visit, so i was sitting in my big windows at my table doing my puzzle when i caught movement out of the corner of my eye!
We don*t have much in the way of mammals around here, Mink, Deer, i assumed this was a cat but they were moving strangly & slowly.
i put on my glasses.
Surprise!
Usually you only see these at night.

march 1 2019 17:53 - Opossum

Looking for spilled black oil Sunflower seeds.
i need to clean that area up & put fresh mulch underneath the feeder, & was just about to do that when this snow hit!
Now things are finally melting, but the mulch pile is still frozen solid under snow cover.
At least the Snow Drops & Crocuses are showing again.
We kinda had spring all winter, then february was a month of real winter.

These pictures are all taken in low light, & through dirty netted windows, but what the heck, you don*t see this every day.
i left my camera handy while i was doing my dishes & took fotos when the Opossum was facing me.

This is one of the many Trees i scan as i go about my day.
It is right across the road from me & is often a perch for the Nest 9 pair & their visitors.
In the lovely setting sunshine, here is perhaps the Nest 9 female, perched on one foot, with a full crop, facing the warm Sun as it goes down.
Something is weird with her left eye, but it is in shade & hard to tell.
Is she just napping the eye on that side?

march 2 2019 16:37 - adult female Eagle

She is stained from the fat of Sea Lion or Seal, both her face & her tail.

i am just standing on my porch, outside the front door, taking these fotos, but i am not missed by this Eagle.
