october 26 2018 16:45 - Em in The Babysitting Tree

The Starlings have arrived!
They are chittering away, & are showing their lovely iridescent feathers.
Em is blinking both nictitating membranes here.

Was heading home after our walk & did a loop through the neighbourhood.
Never spotted our pair, but found this youngster in mishi*s Tree!

Gorgeous youngster, perched on one foot, relaxed, with the toes well spread out on the branch.

The light is coming from behind the Eagle, so not ideal lighting of them from where i am, plus my camera does not like focusing against the light like this.

Yes, a beauty!    :nod2

Went down to Grassy Point with Otto to have a peek & there was a rainbow over towards Texada.
It is hard to photograph a rainbow because it isn*t really *there*.
Surprisingly the camera was finding it in the focus area though, yay.

Found Em, looking for something to eat.
She has a bit of a full crop already.
& food stuck to her beak.

Here*s Mr. Dramatic Eyes again.
He is very different from Em in his behaviour.
He is very twitchy & jumpy, not at all relaxed.
He definitely is keeping an eye on me, & i am just standing there.
There are Starlings around him, but they aren*t getting close, like they did with Em.
& he is not terribly relaxed with them, moving his head rapidly to follow their movements.
He has an interesting layout of his rubbery orange commissure on his left side, see how the lower one kind of curves up towards the top one.
This will be a good way to track this Eagle from this side.
The right side looks more normal.

Nictitating membrane here.

Something startles him & he just about takes off here.

november 4 2018 15:40 - Eagle in The Babysitting Tree

The Starlings are still all around him.

You can see where they are in this jiggly video.
You can also see how jittery he is with him.
Otto is in the van barking at someone walking past.
i was trying out a monopod.
The tripod is way better for video.
He finally takes off, not sure what startled him.

Back to Grassy Point to check out who all these Birds are on the point.
i think i have one right, maybe wren would help with the snoozing one with their eye open?
Black-bellied Plover perhaps?

thanks for those great photos of the male eagle, booni!  To me, his mouth near the gape looks odd on both sides - maybe a scar or rectangular something on the right side and more markings on the left.  Not sure what I am seeing.
