i got a call from a friend who lives near me in the Nest neighbourhood.

I saw two Eagles, they had apparently been perusing my chickens, but I didn*t realize that they were up there, & THEN I heard the whir of wings. About thirty feet above my house they grasped talons & they did a tremendous corkscrew twirl dance thing over the roof of my house. It was wonderful. I wondered what these Eagles were doing above my house. Was it a mating ritual they were doing?

i explained to her that likely an Eagle other than Em or Dad was in the territory & that they were being challenged & that the grasping of feet & twirling like that was like a game of chicken to see who would let go first.
They had let go of each other & flown away just before they reached my friend*s roof.
i have also been hearing the Niners screeching a lot, & today they were in the Tree across the road from me, two Eagles screeching away.
So perhaps there is some vying for Nest territory going on?
i am putting a little video on the Niner topic next.
wooohoooo!

Okay, so i was heading through the Nest neighbourhood looking for Eagles, but hadn*t spotted any.
i was just turning up the hill from Grassy Point when an Eagle went beaning over my head & out towards the water.
So, i turned & went back down the hill to the water.
It was a beautiful sunny blue sky day & a ways out over the water i spotted what looked like feeding activity.
There were a bunch of Gulls flying around over the water & i spotted two Eagles in amongst them.
One then the other came flying back in over my head before i could get a video, & landed in The His & Hers Tree.
These fotos are taken from the Water side of the Tree.
Now, i assumed these were Em & Dad til i looked at my fotos.
Now i am not so sure.

Now, the one on the left COULD? be Em, but the one on the right just doesn*t seem like Dad.
Look at those two white feathers showing on the back.
Could just be feathers from under the tail showing through?
Or a reflection?
This Eagle has their wings open & airing a bit, so maybe that is what is causing the two white ones to show?

The Eagle on the right is all fluffed up, making them look not at all like Dad.
The neck seems long for Dad, & the head feathers too fluffed out.

cali points out that the Eagle on the right, their beak & head feathers still have a bit of dark to them, like a just turned adult?

Now i am up the hill & on the road side of the Tree.
This is the *Dad?* Eagle.
Doesn*t really look like him, eh?

This is the possibly Em Eagle.

A beauty, whoever they are.

After the story above of the aerial battle, i am concerned that these two don*t seem to be Em & Dad.
This neckline COULD be an *M*?

Okay, yay, it is two days later & we have Dad for sure.
His mutton chops are very evident here.

october 13 2016 14:35 - Dad in The Babysitting Tree

i am seeing Dad*s feather with the white patches on it.

It is windy, & he is balancing with the wind coming at him.

Thank you for all that amazing detail Booni. Do you think the first two may have been passing through on their way to their own territory? Have there been any ongoing disputes to your knowlege? I sure hope we dont have fighting anymore.

thanks booni.  i agree, that first set of pics on H & H sure doesn't resemble Dad.

So glad you found him though.  I know you all are having dreadful weather.  Hope he and Em are faring ok thru all the wind and rain.

A little walk after work... A little check on the nest territory. I could hear trills from the Hidden Beach area. Nobody on the Babysitting Tree. I checked the nest perfunctorily... Just in time to see an eagle land silently on it and disappear below the rim.

A minute or so later, just this one view, in bad light, blurry:
October 16, 6:09 pm

I think the eagle probably dived off the far side of the nest at that point or shortly thereafter. More trills from Hidden Beach. I walked around to get a different angle, nobody visible. It started to rain and the light faded some more. That's all there is to my story for today.
