i was going to take Otto for a walk on the beach in front of Niner territory.
We were all ready to head down there when i noticed that my boots were unlaced, so i bent down to tie them up again & for some reason my eyes were drawn to the Tree beside us there on the road!
No wonder!
14 eyes boring holes in our heads!  :eceek
Here are 12 eyes, to begin with.
Look at all the different ages here!
i literally gave my head a shake!
i thought i was seeing things.
Imagine if i hadn*t looked up, what i would have missed!

january 17 2015 14:26 - six Eagles in Niner perch Tree!

A pulled back foto showing all seven Eagles.

A youngster in a Tree closer to the beach.
This is Eagle #8.

Here*s a closer in of the three Eagles at the top of the Tree that had seven Eagles perched there.
i forgot to mention that it was misting heavily, so the camera was getting soaked, else i*d*ve run home for my good camera.
Not good conditions for photography at all, but still, just had to share, as it was quite exciting.

Here*s a close up of the Eagle who was lower down in the Tree with seven Eagles.
Looks adult, but then look at the dark tail tips!

This is Eagle #9, i believe there were ten in all, all in this tiny space, in three Trees in one yard.
Perhaps there was something to eat down on the beach?
This Eagle seems to have a full crop, which is pushing out the white under-feathering.

We went down to the beach to investigate, but the tide was right up to the bank, so we couldn*t walk there.
Instead we walked to Grassy Point, looking for more Eagles, but the only ones we found were Mum & Dad.
All the other Trees were empty of Eagles, but for this one tiny area.  :puzzled2

After our walk to Grassy Point we walked back to the car & all those Eagles were still in that perch Tree.
It was misting too hard to stand out in it with my camera, so i took this video of them all from inside the car with the window rolled down.
You can see the misty rain blowing past the Eagles, & the water dripping from the Tree & their feathers.

Yesterday i was out in my yard, noticing vocalizations that sounded like a Raven, but not quite.
The Band-Tailed Pigeon is back, & i remember them making a surprising vocalization, so i was thinking maybe it was them.
They arrive every Spring, usually a large flock of them, but this year i am only noticing one.
They are getting hit by a terrible spread of disease down in California, so i hope that is not why i am only seeing one so far.
Anyway, i was getting out my camera, thinking to record video of the vocalization, when the true source of the sounds flew over my head.
The neighbourhood Raven pair!
They had been in the old Maple Tree, & one & then the second flew over my head carrying huge clumps of Moss in their beaks!  :heart
Perhaps they are getting close to laying eggs?

i took Otto to the beach in front of Niner territory & this gorgeous sub-adult was perched in this Tree just inland from the water that had all those Eagles in it not that long ago.
Looks like a three year old, about to turn four soon?
Distinctive eye stripe of the three year old beginning to fade, eye quite yellow, beak too
