Very neat fungus (well technically not a fungus but treated a such by many mycologist) this is called Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa. It is common in summertime especially after heavy rain in june. you can't eat them.

here is a close up picture i took of the same specie

i am trying to show you this magnificent, gnarly Arbutus Tree, clinging to the cliff, & also, how high up we are at the same time.
Not sure of my success, but what the heck.

Okay, bear with me here.
i am seeing the gorgeous orange flashes of a male Black-Headed Grosbeak in my garden!
Last year i could barely sneak up on them in the Bird feeder.
This year perhaps he is more used to me.
Or perhaps i am in the garden at just the right time.
i am on my hands & knees, weeding, trying to make myself small, & trying to bring my camera everywhere i go so i can grab it without startling anybody away.
i have just seen a male Townsend*s Warbler, but i can*t move to grab my camera!
So that one is in my mind*s eye for now.
Oh, but here is the male Grosbeak, & he seems to be eating Elderberry berries!
At least i am catching some of his lovely colouring, if not the perfect fotos.

You can also see a green berry in his mouth.

This one you can just see the lovely colouring on the back of his head.
He is in focus, but there are leaves in the way!
Back to weeding, til my next opportunity.

Okay, a bit later this same day, & here is the male Grosbeak letting me see him in a different Tree.
& this time he is singing!
Watch his throat move & listen for his song!

That lovely Grosbeak is really singing his heart out - your garden is awesome, and I hope to visit it again one day!
