The time has come !  And for those of us in North America, it starts tonite ! WED. May 15

Starting at 9:30 pm Pacific time till 12:30 am /10:30 Mountain /11:30 Central /12:30 Eastern, etc

And next drive: 6am Pacific-8:30 tomorrow, etc.

Thornybush Game drives to start! Posted by Peter at 7:01 a.m. CAT
http://blog.wildearth.tv/2013/05/thornybush-game-drives-to-start.html

The crew at Thornybush Game Reserve are chomping at the bit to go LIVE and share the beauty of this magnificent piece of African bush with all of you. Not everything is fully in place and tested yet. But, as those of you who  have been with us for a long time know, WE believe there is no test like a LIVE test!

Yesterday and today we have been doing some extensive tweaking and we believe WE are ready for this next step. Between drives we will still be working on extending our signal range, improving picture quality, and streamlining operations, but there's no reason we can't do this while also broadcasting.

So, join us on Thursday, May 16th at 06:30 Central African Time (0430 UTC) as we set out to discover the many wonders Thornybush Game Reserve has to offer, starting with the area surrounding our basecamp. Driving around the area today we already had some great sightings and saw several leopard tracks, so we're hopeful we might be in for some great encounters from the get-go. Make sure you're on the jigga, so you won't miss any of it.

And, above all, tune in on time to be the first to find out who our new presenter is...

---Peter

Drive times: 06:30 - 09:30 CAT and 15:00 - 17:30 CAT

Watch it here:
1. On Wildearth TV: http://lite.wildearth.tv/thornybush-safari

2. On Ustream: Safaris from Thornybush Private Nature Reserve

Ask questions of the presenter (by email) to: drivequestions@wildearth.tv

Give feedback on the drives: (by email) to: drivefeedback@wildearth.tv

Thanks Beth, I have been out all day and just received your email.   :hooray

As Beth posted, the site to watch the drives on is: HERE.

I hope someone will be able to watch the afternoon drives (to early for those of us on the west coast)  and maybe post a few photos here.

Now my brain has to kick in again  :eclol  Africa is 9 hours ahead of Pacific Time.

Drive times:
1. Morning drive from 06:30 - 09:30 CAT means:
  • Pacific - starts at 9:30 p.m. to 00:30 the next day.
  • Mountain - starts at 10:30 p.m. to 01:30 a.m. the next day.
  • Central - starts at 11:30 p.m. to 0:2:30 a.m. the next day.
  • Eastern - starts at 00:30 a.m. to 00:30 a.m.
Note:When WE refers to a morning drive starting on a specific day or date = the evening before for North America.

2. Afternoon drive from 15:00 - 17:30 p.m. (3 - 5:30 p.m. ) CAT means:
  • Pacific - starts at 06:00 a.m.
  • Mountain - starts at 07:00 a.m.
  • Central - starts at 08:00 a.m.
  • Eastern - starts at 09:00 a.m.

Passport, camera, sunhat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, binoculars, pen and paper and duct tape = I'm ready

Thanks to Graham and all the crew who have made this possible.

BBE, I think one minor correction

The morning drives 6:30 am CAT are actually seen in North America the evening before.
ie: the drives are starting Thurs morning CAT 6:30 am but they are 9 hours ahead of Pacific time, so we see it Wed evening 9:30 pm

And from now forward, while watching the drives, I won't be able to keep it straight wether it is daytime or night time, lol

Thanks Beth,

I have just added a 'Note' under the morning drive times in my last post.

My way of remembering which drive is when by Pacific time is:
  • Morning CAT = very late to bed Pacific.
  • Afternoon CAT = too early in my morning.

:eclol

Now it is past time for dinner, clean up and in night attire by 9:15 p.m.  At least we won't be crossing fingers that we get 'one of 80 slots' for the drive. Those were the days.  :giggle

Drive hasn't started as yet, there are 201 users aboard the 'chat'; which is moving way toooooo fast for me.  :eclol

From the Chat Room:
KarenVA (Mod) posted that the morning drives are = 3 hours. Afternoon drives = 2.5 hours.
9:47 p.m.
1. Peter Braat just posted that like the rest of us he is waiting, and that Graham W. is on the case.
2. Mods are as before KarenVA, Aguila, and Valorie B.
3. 'Luvthebirds' is there.
9:51 p.m.
1. Peter says 'the encoder is acting up'.  Now that sounds familiar  :eclol
2. For the up/down scroll:click on 'Users' above the 'B' (bottom of chat area).
9:58 p.m. From Peter Braat:
Quote
Sorry for the delay guys. The device that's acting up now was workign 'spiffingly' for the last several days, guess Murphy decided to join as well.
'Murphy' as in 'Murphy's Law'  :eclol
10:13 p.m. Peter posted
Quote
swapping some cables to see if that's it. Fingers crossed.
My eyes are closing, I had a long and busy day.  :ecwink
10:27 p.m.
Peter Braat :
Quote
Ok, we know where the problem is. Trying to factory reset and freshly set up the device. Hope that will do the trick. We'll know in 5-10 minutes.
10:39 p.m.
Quote
Peter Braat : Very sorry guys. That wasn't it. Still looking deeper.

10:52 p.m.
Quote
Peter Braat : There appears to be a sync issue with one of the cams. WE're trying to work around it. Peter, Graham and Rob are all working like demons to get the drive underway.
Luv is still hanging in too.

Peter Braat : Sorry for the delay guys. The set-up with three cams that worked fine yesterday seems to give issues when we switch now. We're trying a couple of two cam configs to see if that will allow us to go out.

I have a feeling they may 'call this drive'.

Hi Luv,

They must all be so frustrated.

My eyes are slowly closing; but trying to hang in so as to hear / see who the presenter is.

I won't be up for many of the afternoon drives.

 :eclove

P.S. wow, just checked our late TV news - the tormado in Texas was nasty.

P.P.S.  11:30 p.m  Peter -trying one more thing

Luv, that Marc is the presenter is a 'surprise' (as Graham had indicated that none of the former folks associated with the Djuma drives would be involved).

I have a photo and a video of Marc and Bryan setting off. There is an echo.

Bryan ready to introduce the presenter

Marc - the 'surprise' presenter.

I need to work on the video. have made a video since I updated my program.

OK - here it is:

And now  :offtobed

Hi Luv, I left just after Marc took off.  Now I am right behind you for  :offtobed  Luckily not an early start for me. And as before; my absence from the afternoon drives will be conspicuous.  :eclol

I just did one last check on the assorted FB pages and see a comment from:
From Peter Braat
Quote
Hi, please be aware Thornybush Game Lodge is only one of the many lodges in Thornybush Game Reserve. We are currently driving in other parts of the reserve (Royal Malewane, I believe), not the Thornybush Game Lodge's area. We're working with the Reserve management to set up the official page that covers all.

Note: Over the next week, (as time and fingers permit) I will try to move posts with drive related information (who, when etc.) into the first post, so it is all together.
