You've captured some great shots there, booni.  Thanks for sharing them.

i noticed a LOT of eagles soaring high up above my house today.
At one point i counted 14!!
When one gets too close to nest #9, i hear twittering from the nest tree area.
Because the sound keeps coming from the nest area, does this mean that someone is sitting on eggs there?
wooohoooo!

This was a pair of eagles out of the 14 i saw yesterday that came down close enough for me to get a half decent foto of them.

i*m in the habit now of scanning trees for eagles everywhere i go.
i have an eagle perch tree across the road from me, & in the very back of my yard.
They*ve mostly had ravens in them lately, & now i have Band Tailed Pigeons hanging out there as well.
But on this day, there was an eagle!
So i got out my camera.
Nice to be able to take fotos without having to go anywhere!
i am assuming this is one of the adults from Nest #9.

What i thought was an immature eagle flew by while i was photographing.
The adult in the perch tree did not react at all!
Later when i looked at my fotos, turns out it wasn*t an eagle at all!!
This one has nicks in the left wing primaries, a lot like Mum*s do!

Looks like this one is missing a tail feather, right in the middle!

march 21 2010 14:42:54 - Turkey Vulture

i haven*t seen a Turkey Vulture since the eagles all went away in august-september.
That day i saw TWO!!
Eagles don*t seem at all bothered by the presence of the vultures.

Yesterday around 5pm i biked by the nest #9 waterside perch trees.
There are two of them.
There was an adult, or at least a sub adult, in each tree.
i didn*t have my binoculars or camera with me to verify the age of the eagles.
If this is the Mum & the Dad, they mustn*t have eggs yet!
When i got back to my driveway, there are two perch trees i check out that are a ways behind my property.
They often have eagles in them.
Sure enough, one was there.
i got out my binocs, & this one was a juvenile or immature eagle!
This tree is about as close to the #9 nest as, say, Foster*s Fir or The Peters*s Tree is to the nest cam nest.
wooohoooo!

Nest #9? adult in tree across the street from me
« Reply #24 on: April 09, 2010, 09:05:41 PM »
Today when i got home from biking with Dooki there was an eagle in the tree across the street from my house!
& they even gave me time to go get my camera & set it up!  :biggrin6
i*m pretty sure i photographed this adult last season.
To me they seem to have unusually large eyes.

Here they are, looking towards the nest tree.
They did this quite often while i watched.

i went for a bike ride in the early evening with Dooki & my camera, so i went by nest #9 to see what i could see.
i hear sounds coming from the nest, as though someone is in there sitting on eggs all day.
But i had a hard time spotting the nest from the ground.
i finally spotted a white spot & aimed my camera at it to see if it showed anything later.
Sure enough, if you look closely, the white spot is a tail, & you can see the two wingtips opened up on either side of the tail as though someone is brooding eggs!
Look right in the center of the foto.
See the blue oval?
In the lower left corner of the oval look for the back of the tail, with the wing tips, one on either side & raised in the air.
Then click the foto, & click again to see it large & close.

You captured some wonderful in-flight shots, Boon!  Wow!   :clap

It took a little while, but following your instructions, I found the eagle on the nest!    :chuckle

Booni, I have to add my admiration as well.  I so love all your photos, but you really excelled with the 4 shot series!  I have peeked now several times, especially at the second one, on large view and the photos are amazing! :clap
