Miigwetch to both of you for this wonderful rescue!  I look forward to hearing how this little guy makes out!

booni...your story had me walking through the bush with you...and holding my breath each step of the way!!  (also wiping the bugs off my arms!)

Barb, many thanks for the details of the eaglet rescue!  I itched right along with you!  And thanks also to Wren for the photos.  We are looking forward to info on his condition and future release.  Many more thanks to you both for bringing nature alive to those who aren't as close to it as you both are.

What a fabulous telling of this amazing adventure you both had capturing this beautiful eaglet!  And you did it so efficiently!! You are a pro now!!!  And the eaglet looks gorgeous with his new cage-mate at Mars!  Thank you, Booni, for such a wonderful story!  And thank you for your presence of mind!   :eclove

Booni and Wren what a great rescue. I was holding my breath while reading Booni's blow by blow report (and subsequent itching  :ecwink).

What a team and now the eaglet will have a story to tell the others at MARS.

Booni I hope you weren't itchy for too long.?

BBE, i discovered a trick for the parasites!
When i felt a tickle on my arm, i would brush at it, but the bug would still be there.
Pinching & rolling seemed to work, & having wet hands seemed to work even better.
It seemed they mostly migrated to my hair, where i would be feeling tickling.
i wet my hands at the sink & ran them through my hair which picked them up & they were there, still, on my hands, then i rinsed them down the drain.
i did this every time i felt a tickle on my head, i guess they all headed up there, & eventually the tickling stopped as i*d gotten them all!
i was at work that day, so had a few tickly hours til i could have my shower.
As soon as i touched the capture gear, they were on me again.
The towel & crate covers are hanging on the line til the parasites die & fall off.
Even two nights later, when i hung them out, i had two come running for my arms!
So i*m leaving that stuff to hang for a bit now.
wooohoooo!

Booni, you have come up with a great solution - 'pinch, roll and water'. I felt them onme reading how you got rid of them. Many thanks for all you do.

Whenever i am driving by the Co Op corner, i check out the top of the #24 Nest Tree to see if anyone is perched there.
Today someone was there!
& even from a distance, they did not seem like an adult.
Screeech!
i turned the corner & headed down the road to get closer to see.
Here is who was there!

Woooohoooooo!
Branching!
There must be a good view of what the parents are up to from there.
Look at them here, stretching & relaxing their shiny new toes & talons!

The Nest itself is a good ways down from this tippy top perch branch!
This is a confident brancher!
i*m guessing that it was the younger sibling who oopsied from the Nest 10 days ago & is now at MARS.
The loss of the sibling benefits this Eaglet & their parents, as now there is one less mouth to feed.
No question it is always better that they stay in their Nest & be raised with their siblings & parents, but thanks to MARS, both Eaglets will be successful fledgers & be well-fed now.

Later in the day i was able to return to Nest #24, & the branching Eaglet was still atop the Tree!
Here they are, keeping an eye on what the adults are up to, & calling to them.
The campsite across the street is very noisy with voices & music!
i was lucky to catch the calls during a quiet moment.

The branching Eaglet is looking towards Little Tribune Bay, where perhaps at least one of the parents is perched.
Look how the left foot is grasping a small stump of branch.

It always amazes me that young Birds already know how to care for their feathers!
Working under their tail here.

i love the white patch of underfeathering being exposed by the wind here.

Look at all those beautiful feathers, & the lovely black beak!
i love the view of the talons just poking out from the far underside of the branch in all these fotos!

i*m seeing a bit of agitation, a desire to change the perch on the branch, & a bit of unsureness about how exactly to do this safely!

A-HA!
The reason for the agitation!
i*ve never seen a poopshot split into two streams like this.
Notice how the white urates take one direction, while the darker fecal matter has taken it*s own path.
i would call this a small poopshot.

Ahhh, that feels better.
Now where are Mum & Dad??

Yoooohoooooooo!
Remember ME?
HUNGRY here!

Looks like the Eaglet is making an attempt to turn around & face the other way!

july 18 2013 13:34 - 24let on Nest Tree top

Wooohooooooooo!
MONEY shot!
You could stand there for hours & never catch a foto like this!
Successful turn on the branch, & a large attempt to catch the attention of the parents!
Look at the lovely youthful tassels on the ends of the secondary feathers!

For some reason, i check the monitor of my camera, despite the fact that i am registering agitation on the part of the Eaglet again.
Mistake!
That was the last foto i got of them perched on the treetop.
When i looked up ready to photograph the Eaglet again, they were gone!
My eyes were drawn to the sound of their calls.
This is not only a branching Eaglet but a fledged one!
Woooohoooooooooooo!
i wait for them to return.
i can hear them calling closer to Little Tribune Bay.
No doubt they are closer to their parent now!
