Pete LeRoux has been working on getting a larger conservation area for the animals by dropping the borders of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana for 15 years. It is a reality in practice now.

The new area is called: The Greater Mapungubwe Transfrontier Conservation Area (South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana)

'emc', this is the video of the Aardvark who visted Pete's Pond early morning on March 10, 2012 (CAT).

Not often that aardvark's are seen.

ELLIES -If you haven't already seen this, watch the entire 4 minutes. I was reminded of two like occurrences years ago at Pete's Pond. One was a real nail-biter, but the really young baby was OK.

In the other one, once the mums, aunts, cousins, etc. had managed to remove the  baby from the Pond , it turned around and slid back down into the pond  :eclol ;but easier to get out.  I swear the little one slid back in deliberately. :eclol

March 30, 2012. The camThe cam appears to be back up

On the evening/ night of March 29 - Pamela Bell stitched three photos of a nightjar. This is the first time I have actually seen one, other than when they flit across the pond at night.

I looked for a reference, but there are several types.  Could it be this variety?

I spent about 45 minutes last evening here, watching the Pond on their Sat. morning. (Mar. 31.)

While I was there, the zoomie panned around the pond for us. It had rained in the past day and all looked so lush.

There was small herd of wildebeests, with 2 or three calves. Then five zebras came to join them. However they were a little stand offish. One appeared to be pregnant. And a lone Egyptian Goose.

Oops, seven photos, guess I'd best split them into two posts   :nod2

I can't see the Plovers clearly, but I believe them to be Blacksmith / Lapwing Plovers.

Love seeing the zebras. We have seen them often since the cam at Petes returned last year. Before then, scarcely, or so it seems to me.  :ecwink

Spoonbill feeding  June 17, 2008   There is a Grey Heron on the Left, his style of fishing is the stealthy approach, stand silently, and then, whoosh.  Also a Sacred Ibis on the right in the movie. The Spoonbill is in the middle most of the time.

Today I had a few hours so I checked in at the Pond. The sound has been off for about 5 days now.had a couple of hours today.

I picked a few cool photos for you to look at,

I missed this one from March 19 - a leopard visited the pond. Thanks to Pamela bell for the photo and Pat Nebraska for the video.
