Eagles4Kids Eagle Cam: Larry and Lucy

Eagles4Kids cam information:

The web cam went live in November, 2010. Lucy and Larry are a pair of eagles that live in a cottonwood tree on private land.

Eagles4kids was created through a grant, by third and fourth graders from Blair, Wisconsin. The camera is mounted 4 feet above a bald eagle’s nest, which sits along a trout stream in the farm fields of rural Wisconsin. During non-nesting times the eagles stay in the area, not far from the nest. The nest is five to six feet in diameter and about four feet deep. The students collaborated with the National Eagle Center on the design of the web page. Along with the technology support, the National Eagle Center has created an education partnership with the students at Blair-Taylor Elementary School.

We've learned that the kids are feeling a bit discouraged because their eagles are not nestorating and didn't lay eggs last year.  Please drop by and tell them how much you like their cam and their efforts; they could use the encouragement. ♥

Images and videos posted in this thread are ©Eagles4Kids, with thanks and best wishes to the kids, their teacher and Lucy and Larry.

We had the cam up this morning while we were chatting and Larry and Lucy were very busy nestorating.  Brought in a lot of sticks and moved one large branchy stick all around the nest and finally it pretty much went over the side.  We were all thrilled because we knew the children would be happy to see the eagle pair busily working.

Paint, that's very good news to know that Larry and Lucy are nestorating.  The students must be excited to see them do that!

Sparkie, the video is so heart-warming!  The kids must be jumping up and down!  Lucy's feathers cross over one another the way that Mom Hornby's do and Larry is 'dressed' almost like Dad Hornby!

The nest seems somewhat smaller than than the Hornby nest, but it may be newer, too.  Hope we'll see one or two chicks there next year!   :nod2

I am enjoying watching your video clips of the eagles.  I teach in Oostburg, WI - it is close to Sheboygan.  I live in Port Washington.  For 3 years I have been watching the Hornby eagles on Hornby Island in British Columbia.  Unfortunately early in my beginning science teaching about the eagles this year they returned to begin their nestorization...the camera was shut off permanently.

I promised my students before I returned from my sick leave I would find them a nest for us to study this year.  Last year my class did journaling and we had ourselves on a forum just for our school so my students could ask questions and someone would write back the answer to them.  This was very exciting to my class.

Does your class do anything like that?   The Hornby eagles last year had two eaglets that fledged!  How exciting except the kids needed to watch this from home as it was in the summer when they left the nest.  Most of the kids were watching the nest at home.  At the end of the year my students found this to be one of the best activities we did.

Love looking at the eagles.  Thanks. JP

JP, I hope you are doing better!   It's nice to 'see' you here!

Have you checked out the Eagles4Kds cam and Facebook page?  There is a link on their cam page.  It's a wonderful activity for them and anyone who watches 'their' eagles!
